Cousins

Made during a phase when I was deeply drawn to conversation-led cinema, this film explores a simple, low-drama premise: two cousins catching up and slowly moving from awkward familiarity to genuine ease. Over the course of the film, their dynamic shifts from hesitant small talk to the kind of comfort more often associated with close friendship or something more.

Since both performers were non-actors, I had to make sure they had a shared chemistry prior to the shoot. Long hours of facilitating ‘chill sessions’ over beers and pizzas, watching films, discussing the intent of the scenes instead of lines, and taking walks while talking through who their characters were. That shared time shaped the film in a meaningful way.
